Wetroom Installation – How to stop a wetroom leaking!

With wetroom popularity increasing in the UK rapidly and homeowners trying to increase the value of their property wet rooms are an easy option to do this, utilising poorly used space, wet rooms can be installed in most areas of the house.

However a wet room comes with risks, if a wetroom installation is done correctly it will never leak. Wet rooms are 100% waterproof and that’s that. What leaks is poor workmanship of poorly installed floors.

This usually occurs when corners are being cut and money is trying to be saved. We’re not saying it has to cost the world to install a wetroom, but do be prepared to spend some money and have the job done properly.

Do not buy inferior products, there is a lot on the market that looks good and the price is really cheap, there is usually a reason for this, it’s cheap and manufacturing standards are not high. We would only recommend purchasing a XPS core type wetroom shower tray or a Glass Reinforced Plastic shower tray that have big brand names associated with them, again they are going to be priced slightly more than your cheaper products but work that in to a budget, You will be surprised at how little extra it really does cost.

What is fundamental to remember when purchasing wetroom products is that you are going to be pouring water all over the area and a lot of it when you are having a shower. You don’t want the area to leak, so keep that in the back of your head when you see super cheap products on ebay!

Buying from a reputable company always helps especially when it comes to technical information, product queries and more importantly how to install advice. Most wet rooms can be installed by an avid DIYer as long as the instructions are followed. This to, does come at a price good support will be something that you need when you have questions about wetroom installations.

If however you are perhaps not that comfortable with carrying out the wetroom installation, investigate a wetroom installation service. These can range from £499 upwards. Some are backed with a warranty that is also underwritten by an insurance company giving you peace of mind that once it’s installed if you do have any issues they will be put right and not at your cost.

With heating becoming more and more difficult and energy prices increasing year on year adding insulation in the form of tile backer board will not only add insulation to your room but decrease the heat up time and also allow the installation to be very water tight, Tile backer boards are manufactured from XPS core and have an polymer cement face which allows you to tile straight on to them.

As the tile backer boards are fully waterproof the only point of sealing becomes the joints, which allows rapid install and easy tanking procedures to be carried out.

Remember buy cheap buy twice.
