What is a wet room former made of?The wet room kits that we sell are pretty much manufactured in the same way, there are two types (GRP and Extruded Foam). GRP, which stands for glass reinforced plastic, is extremely strong, you can usually raise your floor boards and put this in place and it can be utilised without being underboarded. The other type is extruded foam, which is very high density, it's manufactured usually with a cement based polymer face with fabric embedded in it to give added pressure strength, these wet room kits do need to be underboarded as they are not strong enough to take weight without being supported underneath.
What about the thickness of the wet room former? All wet room kits will have a certain thickness when manufactured, this is so you can establish a fall within the wet room former to allow the water to move to the drain location. Depending on the size of the wet room former some will be 20mm all the way up to 28mm. The older types of wet room kits are 40mm and these tend to be used in concrete where depth doesn't really matter when installing a wet room.
